Believing and Belonging

Believing and Belonging brings something new to Sunday School work in Africa.

Many teachers are already gifted in proclaiming the Gospel message to children. They do not need written material which tries to put every word into their mouths. So Believing and Belonging does not do this.

However, in today’s Africa children are beginning to learn in new ways. More children expect to be treated as partners in learning; and to be creative and playful in the way they learn.

Week by week, Believing and Belonging gives teachers the tools to make their Sunday School an excellent place for Bible learning. This is done with a rich variety of methods: drama, games, group work, visual aids, movement, songs, creativity, quizzes and story-telling. Most weeks there are sections for older and younger children, as well as time for all ages together. Everything is presented in an attractive and easy-to-follow form.

In all this variety, there are three constant themes. The first is the way in which adults and children should speak to one another in the redeemed community of Christ: with patience and respect. The second is the way in which ordinary household or natural items are used as aids for learning. The emphasis is on using our imaginations rather than thinking we have to spend money. The third is sensitivity to the African context, especially in the original storylines and illustrations provided.

We trust that Believing and Belonging will prove a blessing to the whole church and especially to its youngest members.
